History Lost & Found

Riddle: In this town we have the "Old and New", explain to us why we have two.  A third was started in 1865, you could not get out of these alive.

Answer: The Old & New Cemetery

 

The official Texas Historical marker placed at the cemetery lists it as the Old Methodist Churchyard, the same as the various grave and cemetery websites do, which stems from the fact that it was the site of the original Methodist Church in Montgomery. There is a small green sign on the fence that reads: Old Montgomery Cemetery Founded 1838.

The cemetery, located at the corner of Hwy 105 and Pond Street has approximate 100 graves, and is surrounded by a low chain link fence. No visiting hours are posted.
